Sandals Resorts was founded in 1981 by Jamaican entrepreneur Gordon “Butch” Stewart, who transformed a rundown Montego Bay hotel into an upscale, couples-only retreat. From the start, Sandals differentiated itself with elevated all-inclusive amenities like gourmet dining, premium drinks, and water sports, quickly establishing a new standard for Caribbean luxury vacations.

The brand expanded throughout the Caribbean in the decades that followed, eventually adding Beaches Resorts for families and rolling out innovations such as overwater bungalows and butler-level service. Today, Sandals is recognized as one of the most influential hospitality groups in the region, known for shaping the modern luxury-all-inclusive concept.
