While the island was first set up for slave-breeding, the slaves imported to the location ended up living self-reliant, forming a community of their own. In 1843, an earthquake hit the island followed by a hurricane four years later. During the later part of the nineteenth century, Barbuda's governmental administration was closely aligned with Antigua, thereby causing the smaller isle to become a dependency of the bigger island. Most of the visitors to Antigua and Barbuda stream to the larger island of Antigua. Many arrive by cruise ship in St. John's where historical homes, museums, and shops are the main draws. Macau is a great place to visit all year round, but the weather isn’t always conducive to beach visits. If you’re seeking a beach vacation, you’ll need to go when the weather is warmer.   Macau has a dry and wet season. Usually, the weather is overcast and warm in the springtime and rainy and hot over the summer months. Expect the weather to be clear in the fall and sunny and cold in the winter.  The average annual temperature is about 72 degrees Fahrenheit, or 20 degrees on the Celsius scale. Macau sees about 100 days during the year where the temperature hovers around 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius.

Believe me, it is worth the journey. The temple, established in 580, is nestled among low hills- a wonderful spot to reflect quietly. You’ll get mesmerized in the carved dragon reliefs and feel spell-bound when you see the lotus blossoms.  Spring is the ideal time to see the temple, with all the flowers in bloom, or in the autumn, when the gingko trees show off their yellow leaves. It seems like Mother Nature has lit up the entire landscape. You also don’t want to miss the giant bronze Buddha displayed at the Beopjusa Temple. What to Know Before Visiting St. Maarten/St. Martin Island

There are a few things to keep in mind before visiting this beautiful island location. Most people speak either Dutch or French as their first language, so you’ll want to brush up on these languages before you go. Creole is also spoken on the French side while Papiamento (a Portuguese-based Creole language) is spoken on the Dutch side.Seeing the Wildlife and Experiencing the Great Outdoors One of the great sights to see is the Great Salt Pond, part of the Caribbean Birding Trail, on St. Maarten. It is one of the reasons the Dutch decided to settle on Sint Maarten back in 1631. They collected the salt off the pond - a primary source of income for over 300 years.  While this birding area is no longer used for salt produced, you can see plenty of birds who flock to and inhabit the area. Birds like roosting and nesting on the rock walls, including a common bird, the Black-necked Stilt. You might also enjoy a fish dinner on Maho beach or take a walk through the Zoological and Botanical Garden on St. Maarten. You’ll find plenty of native wildlife at this attraction on the Dutch side, which is north of Philipsburg. You’ll find ocelots, peccaries, monkeys, baboons, iguanas, frogs, toads, birds, and tortoises.
