Silversea was born from the dream of Italian shipping entrepreneur Antonio Lefebvre d'Ovidio, a maritime lawyer who envisioned a new class of cruise ship — more intimate and more luxurious than anything the world had ever seen. In 1994, that vision became reality when Silversea launched its first ship, Silver Cloud, pioneering the concept of all-inclusive cruising with fares that covered gratuities, beverages, port charges, and complimentary shore excursions. It was a revolution in luxury travel that the industry had never seen before.

When Silver Cloud debuted, no other cruise line could say that every cabin was a suite and that most had private verandas. The line quickly earned recognition beyond the cruise world — in its second year, Silversea scored higher than any travel company on Condé Nast Traveler's Reader's Choice Awards, surpassing celebrated brands like Shangri-La and The Ritz-Carlton.

Today, Silversea is considered the jewel in the crown of the Royal Caribbean Group, which acquired the line in 2018 and completed full ownership in 2020. With a fleet of 12 ships sailing to over 900 destinations across all seven continents, Silversea continues to set the standard for what luxury cruising can and should be.
