Explore South AmericaMadrid instantly captured my heart.
Unlike many European capitals that feel rushed, Madrid moves at its own pace. Mornings begin slowly with coffee and pastries while evenings don’t truly begin until after sunset.
Walking through the city feels like stepping through living history. Every neighborhood tells a different story, from grand royal palaces to quiet cobblestone streets lined with family-owned cafés.
Some of my favorite spain experiences included:
Madrid perfectly balances old-world elegance with modern energy, making it one of Europe’s most welcoming capitals.
If you’re traveling to Spain for the food…you’re making an excellent decision. Every meal feels like an event rather than simply eating.
Some dishes you absolutely must try include:
One of my favorite Spain experiences was wandering through Mercado de San Miguel, sampling small bites from dozens of vendors while enjoying local Spanish wine.
There really isn’t a wrong choice.
After the excitement of Madrid, Málaga offered something completely different.
Life slows down here.
Palm trees line the waterfront, cafés spill onto sunny sidewalks, and the Mediterranean becomes part of everyday life.
Highlights included:
Málaga is where history meets beach life without sacrificing either. It’s easy to see why so many travelers extend their stay.
If someone asked me for one hidden gem in southern Spain…
I’d answer Nerja every single time.
This charming whitewashed coastal town feels authentic in every way. Its narrow streets are filled with flower-covered balconies, local boutiques, and cafés where nobody seems to be in a hurry.
The highlight is undoubtedly the famous Balcón de Europa. Standing on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, it’s impossible not to pause and simply admire the view.
Nearby, the incredible Nerja Caves reveal one of Spain’s most impressive natural wonders, filled with enormous chambers and ancient formations that have existed for thousands of years.
Nerja perfectly captures everything people dream about when imagining southern Spain.
One thing I quickly realized is that Spain truly offers something for everyone.
Whether you’re planning:
Spain delivers.
Its excellent rail system makes traveling between cities effortless, while each destination offers a completely different atmosphere.
One trip can include bustling cities, medieval castles, mountain villages, world-class museums, and beautiful Mediterranean beaches, all without feeling rushed.
Now you can see why I recommend Spain so often to my clients.
Spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and ideal sightseeing conditions.
