December – April
The dry season, known locally as Iruvai, runs from December through April, with April and November/December serving as transitional months. This is peak season which means that the rates are also at their highest. Calmer seas, not as much rain, and underwater visibility consistently between 25 and 40 meters make January through March the strongest all-round window for first-time visitors.
For guests at Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, the dry season means reliable conditions for snorkeling the house reef, excursions around Baa Atoll (to spot Manta Rays), and the seaplane transfer arriving in flat, glassy water.
May - November
The southwest monsoon known as Hulhangu, can bring stronger winds and heavy showers. These showers can last couple of minutes and pass leaving a clear day behind, or they can linger for many days when a storm front moves in. During this period, known as off season, resort rates that can decrease from their peak prices.
During the wet season, both manta ray and whale shark sightings in Hanifaru Bay near Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru peak as southeast winds drive plankton into the bay. Feeding frenzies in June can involve up to 200 animals at a time!
