Explore South AmericaThere are places that immediately take your breath away……Interlaken is one of them.
Nestled perfectly between the turquoise waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken feels almost too beautiful to be real. Every direction offers towering snow-capped peaks, emerald valleys, charming Swiss chalets, and flower-filled balconies that look like they’ve been copied from a postcard.
I’ll be honest.
When I arrived, I wasn’t convinced I was going to enjoy spending several days surrounded almost entirely by nature.
Within hours, that opinion completely disappeared.
Interlaken isn’t just about mountains.
It’s about slowing down.
It’s about breathing cleaner air.
It’s about realizing that sometimes the greatest luxury is simply sitting beside a crystal-clear lake while watching paragliders drift silently through the sky.
One of my favorite experiences was visiting the spectacular Giessbach Falls.
Standing beside waterfalls that thunder down the mountainside while overlooking Lake Brienz reminded me just how incredibly powerful nature can be.
The history of Interlaken dates back to the 12th century when an Augustinian monastery was established between the lakes, giving the town its name, which literally means “between lakes.” Today, it has evolved into Switzerland’s adventure capital while still preserving its peaceful alpine character.
Whether you’re interested in hiking, scenic train rides, paddleboarding, lake cruises, or simply enjoying breathtaking scenery, Interlaken offers something for every traveler.
Don’t miss:
If Interlaken captured my adventurous side…
Lucerne completely stole my heart.
This city feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Historic bridges covered in flowers. Colorful medieval buildings. Lakefront promenades. Snow-covered mountains surrounding the city in every direction.
Everything somehow feels timeless.
Walking across the famous Chapel Bridge, originally built in the 14th century, I couldn’t help but imagine the centuries of merchants, soldiers, travelers, and locals who crossed this same bridge long before me.
Lucerne beautifully balances history with modern Swiss living.
One moment you’re admiring centuries-old frescoes painted across historic buildings. The next you’re enjoying incredible lakeside dining with views that simply don’t exist anywhere else in the world.
The Lion Monument particularly stood out to me.
Learning about the Swiss Guards who sacrificed their lives during the French Revolution gave this beautiful sculpture an emotional significance I hadn’t expected.
Beyond the history, Lucerne is incredibly relaxing. The pace is slower. People linger over coffee. Families stroll the waterfront. Musicians perform in the old squares.
It reminded me that travel isn’t always about checking attractions off a list.
Sometimes it’s about simply enjoying where you are.
Many travelers make the mistake of thinking Zurich is simply Switzerland’s financial capital. It’s so much more.
Zurich surprised me in the best possible way.
The city effortlessly blends medieval architecture, contemporary culture, incredible dining, vibrant nightlife, and pristine public spaces into one unforgettable destination.
Walking through Old Town felt like exploring a living museum.
Narrow cobblestone streets reveal hidden courtyards, centuries-old churches, artisan shops, and cafés tucked into buildings that have stood for hundreds of years.
Then, only minutes later, you’re standing beside the sparkling waters of Lake Zurich watching sailboats glide across one of Europe’s cleanest lakes.
One thing that impressed me throughout my trip was Switzerland’s commitment to cleanliness, punctuality, and efficiency. The trains are phenomenal. Public transportation makes traveling between cities incredibly easy.
Everything simply works. And it allows visitors to spend less time worrying about logistics and more time creating memories. Zurich became the perfect ending to my Swiss adventure because it combined everything I’d experienced throughout the trip:
History.
Culture.
Food.
Architecture.
Natural beauty.
Modern sophistication.
This trip reminded me that the best adventures often begin just outside our comfort zones.
I wasn’t sure I’d love spending so much time surrounded by mountains.
Instead, I found myself slowing down, appreciating nature in ways I never had before, and discovering that Switzerland isn’t just beautiful, it’s restorative.
I came home with incredible photos, unforgettable memories, and a much deeper appreciation for Swiss history, culture, and the simple joy of exploring somewhere that feels both peaceful and exciting.
